Stream A$AP Rocky If You're Into Human Rights

By now you have probably heard that A$AP Rocky has been detained in Sweden for the last 3 weeks following a brawl. While reports on the treatment A$AP and his two friends while in the Swedish prison have varied, this high-profile situation has garnered significant attention towards the ongoing conversations on racial biases, detention, and basic human rights.

At present, the fate of A$AP Rocky and his two friends is unknown. The Swedish government does not have a bail system, rather they detain investigation subjects they feel are “flight risks” on a two-week basis until they determine the next steps. A$AP Rocky’s team began a petition calling for “Justice For Rocky”, and many high-power figures, such as Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West have rallied to ameliorate the situation. Even the President has intervened. However, it does not seem like Sweden is likely to budge.

Getting justice for Americans detained abroad remains a complex and noble pursuit. However, it makes it rather difficult and especially hypocritical to ignore the human rights atrocities being committed daily in our own country- most notably of which is the inhumane detention of migrant children and families at our borders. So, in light of all of this, I will be donating the proceeds from the streaming of my song A$AP Rocky to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) until A$AP Rocky and his two friends are released from prison. If we cannot do much to help the living conditions of our citizens detained abroad, we should at least be doing everything we can to make sure we aren’t infringing on the basic human rights of those who find themselves on our soil.

So, go stream A$AP Rocky now, and tell your friends to as well! Also, consider making a donation of your own to RAICES. Let’s just try to be better.
